The Konzertvereinigung der Wiener Staatsopernchor
The Konzertvereinigung der Wiener Staatsopernchor is a concert association founded in 1927, consisting of members of the Vienna State Opera Chorus. Since its founding, the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor has, with the addition of innumerable international singing artists, performed in concerts and operatic productions around the globe. Of particular importance is the artistic relationship with Salzburger Festspiele, where the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor has, since its inception, served as the primary chorus for the festival.
This relationship has shaped the dramatic and vocal identity of the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor for nearly a century. In addition to its work as a world-class opera chorus, oratorio ranging from the Baroque period to the modern era belong to the standard repertoire of the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor. Renowned conductors such as Clemens Krauss, Arturo Toscanini, Karl Böhm, Herbert von Karajan, Riccardo Muti, Franz Welser-Möst, Mariss Jansons, Marco Armiliato, and Philippe Jordan were or are patrons and friends of the chorus.
Unlike many large choruses, the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor consists of exclusively professional singers for its performances of operatic, oratorio, or symphonic literature. Opulence of sound, stylistic confidence and precision are trademarks of the interpretations of the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor. In collaboration with some of the most important orchestras, there are numerous exemplary performances of works from operatic and concert literature available on DVD and CD. Furthermore, the Konzertvereinigung der Staatsopernchor has been part of multiple productions honored with the International Opera Awards and the Austrian Musical Theatre Prize. Most recently, the productions of The Idiot (Weinberg) and The Greek Passion (Martinu).
